Choosing the model matters less than having something to check its output against

Every current model writes a clean script. What separates a useful workflow from a fast one, and the checks that catch a fluent script with nothing in it. 2026-10-11.

Why the model is not the variable

Script writing is a short-form fluency task and current models are all good at it. Run the same brief through several and you get several readable scripts, which is why comparisons in this category collapse into interface and price.

The variable that is left is what happens after the draft exists. A script you cannot evaluate is a guess with good grammar.

Four checks, none of which need a better model

Run these on any draft
CheckThe measured reason
Is the planned length over 15 seconds?Under 15s is the weakest band in our sample
Does it open on a count of things?Number and list openings clear the bar least often of nine families
Is the first frame specified, not just the first line? The visual-first family has the best clear rate
Is there a word budget? The median spoken reel here is about 196 words

The question to ask any tool

What is this built on, and how would it know? A model predicting plausible script text has no access to what happened in your niche. It cannot know which openings cleared the bar or where the length cliff sits, because those are facts about published videos.

That is not a criticism of generators. It is a description of the job they do. The mistake is expecting judgment from a tool built for fluency.

A workflow that uses each tool for its actual strength

  1. Decide what to make from evidence: find Reels in your niche that beat their own account by three times or more.
  2. Take the structure, not the topic. The shape is the transferable part.
  3. Draft with whatever model you like. This step is commoditised and free is fine.
  4. Run the four checks above before filming, because afterwards they are a post-mortem.
  5. Keep a record of which opening family each script used, so you can see when you have repeated yourself.

Where Scrptly sits

Scrptly is on the evidence side of that workflow, not the drafting side. It reads published Reels across 2,512 of them and reports what separated the ones that travelled, and its evaluator checks a draft against those patterns. It is not a one-click script writer and does not pretend to be.

Figures on this page come from 2,512 Instagram Reels across 530 accounts, analysed by Scrptly and deduplicated so no reel is counted twice. Read 2026-10-11.
