Faceless Reels are 36 percent of what we analysed and they are not a shortcut

900 of 2,512 Reels have no spoken script. They reach about the same as the ones that do, and they fail in one specific way. 2026-10-11.

What the format actually does to your numbers

Of 2,512 Reels we analysed, 900 carry no real spoken script, which is 36 percent. They have a median of 122,268 views against 127,384 for Reels with a script: a gap of about four percent, which is not a difference worth naming.

They hold up on outliers too. 198 of the 490 Reels beating three views per follower are faceless. The format is close to neutral, and anyone selling it as a growth hack is selling you the wrong thing.

The one way it reliably costs you

Faceless content clusters short, and short is the weakest length in our data. The median reel with no speech runs 15.3 seconds, which sits inside the under-15-second band. The median reel with a script runs 62.7 seconds.

That is the thing to design around. If you are generating faceless Reels, the default output length is working against you, and no choice of generator fixes it.

What to compare generators on

Questions that actually separate them
QuestionWhy it matters
Can it produce past 20 seconds coherently? The sub-15 band is the weakest we measure
Does the second video look different from the first?Sameness is this category's real failure
Do you control the opening frame? The strongest opening family is visual, not spoken
Whose footage is it, and can you use it commercially? The part people discover late
Can you export and edit elsewhere?Avoids being locked to one look

What no generator does

It will not tell you whether the thing is worth making. Generation and analysis are different categories, and the cheapest mistake in this space is buying the first when your problem is the second.

Worth sizing that honestly: 1,642 of 2,512 Reels here reached fewer people than the account had followers. Producing more of them faster does not move you out of that group.

If you are going faceless

  1. Decide the length before the tool. Clear 15 seconds, ideally comfortably.
  2. Design the opening frame yourself, whatever generates the rest.
  3. Vary the look deliberately between videos. The format's weakness is sameness, not reach.
  4. Check what already worked in your niche before producing volume.

Figures on this page come from 2,512 Instagram Reels across 530 accounts, analysed by Scrptly and deduplicated so no reel is counted twice. Read 2026-10-11.
