Emily Pivots's Instagram Reels, broken down
Five Reels, 1.3 million views, and her shortest and only non-English video did three times the four long English ones combined would suggest.
What this is
Emily Pivots has 24,554 followers on Instagram, read from her most recent analysis. She posts about making money from writing and social platforms. Scrptly analysed her five best-performing Reels.
Five Reels. 1,306,219 views between them, of which 924,036 came from one.
Every opening is the transcribed audio, verbatim. The top one is in French.
“Une fois que j'ai compté les doigts. Hey !”

“Making so much money off Substack. I fucking love Substack”

“Late to posting last month's income breakdown but here it is.”

The outlier is the one that is nothing like the others
Her best reel runs 13 seconds, is in French, and contains 36 transcribed words. It did 924,036 views. The other four run 92 to 161 seconds, are in English, and carry 200 to 620 words. They did between 9,912 and 270,026.
That is a 93 times gap between her best and worst on the same account, and the two videos have almost nothing in common.
The four long ones rank by how specific the promise is
"This stay-at-home mom made over $150,000 in four days" did 62,279. "Late to posting last month's income breakdown" did 9,912. The first names a person, a number and a timeframe; the second apologises for being late.
An apology is a weak opening because it is about the creator's schedule rather than the viewer's interest.
Length is not the lesson here
It would be easy to read this as short beating long. Our wider data says the opposite as a rule: Reels under 15 seconds are the weakest band we measure. Her 13 second video is the exception, and five Reels cannot tell you why.
By the numbers
Views per follower is the only row that compares fairly between accounts of different sizes.
| Measure | This account | All 2,572 analysed Reels |
|---|---|---|
| Reels analysed | 5 | 2,572 |
| Followers | 24,554 | accounts vary, not comparable |
| Median length | 100 seconds | 47.7 seconds |
| Best reel, views per follower | 37.6 | 3.0 is the outlier floor |
| Total views across these Reels | 1,306,219 | not comparable |
The best reel here reached 37.6 views for every follower the account has, against the 3.0 we treat as an outlier floor. Across our wider sample 65 percent of Reels land below their account's follower count, and the largest accounts sit furthest below, so a mid-sized account clearing its own audience many times over is doing something scale alone does not buy.
What transfers
- Name a person, a number and a timeframe in the opening. The one that did outperformed the one that apologised by six times.
- Never open with an apology for posting late. It is about you, not them.
- One outlier does not make a strategy. Her best is unlike everything else she makes.
- A 93 times spread inside one account is normal. Judge yourself on your median, not your best.
