Generating a script from a prompt and finding out what worked are different problems

Why a generator and an analyser are not substitutes, what to check before choosing either, and an honest statement of where Scrptly fits. 2026-10-08.

A note on what is claimed here

Kapwing is a browser-based video creation platform whose feature set changes regularly, and this page does not list it. We are not going to publish a comparison table of another company's current features from memory, because it would be out of date and probably wrong. For what Kapwing does today, check their own site.

What this page can do honestly is describe the difference between two categories of tool, so you can tell which one your problem needs.

What a script generator does

You give it a topic and a format, and it returns a script. The input is your prompt and the model's training. That is genuinely useful when the blank page is the obstacle, when you need a structure to react to, or when you need volume quickly.

What it cannot do is tell you whether the thing it just wrote resembles anything that worked in your niche, because it was not looking at your niche. It was predicting plausible script text.

What an analyser does

It starts from published videos and their measured numbers. Scrptly reads Instagram Reels, labels each opening and structure, and compares performance in views per follower so that account size does not distort the result. The corpus behind it is 2,518 Reels across 528 accounts.

That produces findings a generator has no access to. One example: of 2,518 Reels, the 426 running under 15 seconds have a median of 51,004 views against 221,480 for the band above. Another: 299 of 528 accounts have no reel at all beating three views per follower. Neither is derivable from a prompt.

Which one you need

Match the tool to the obstacle
Your actual problemWhat helps
Blank page, no structure to react toA generator
Need ten drafts todayA generator
Posting steadily, nothing travellingAn analyser
No idea what works in your nicheAn analyser
Have a draft, unsure if it will landAn evaluator, which is the analyser applied to your own text
Need captions, cuts and resizingNeither. That is an editor.

They are also not mutually exclusive, and the sensible combination is obvious once the jobs are separated: use the analyser to decide what to make, then a generator or your own writing to draft it.

What to check before you pick either

  1. Is it generating from a prompt or reading from published performance? This is the whole distinction.
  2. If it claims to know what works, on how many videos, from which platform, and how recently?
  3. Are its numbers measured or model estimates, and does it tell you which?
  4. Does it compare performance to audience size, or report raw views?
  5. Test it on something you already know the answer to before trusting it on something you do not.

Figures on this page come from 2,518 Instagram Reels across 528 accounts, analysed by Scrptly. The source table holds 3,554 rows; it is deduplicated to 2,518 unique Reels so no reel is counted twice. Read 2026-10-08.
