Most tool lists sort by category. Sorting by bottleneck is more useful
Six jobs, what tools exist for each, and the one job almost nothing in the category actually does. 2026-10-14.
Why the usual list does not help
Tool roundups group by category: schedulers, editors, analytics, AI writers. That tells you what things are called, not which one fixes the thing stopping you. Most people buy from the wrong group and conclude the category does not work.
Sorted by what is actually blocking you
| Your bottleneck | Tool type | What it will not do |
|---|---|---|
| I forget to post | Scheduler | Make the posts worth seeing |
| Editing takes too long | Editor or template tool | Change whether the idea lands |
| I have no idea what to make | Analysis | Film it for you |
| I cannot write the script | AI writer | Know what worked in your niche |
| I cannot be on camera | Faceless and voice tools | Fix a video with no point |
| I do not know if it is working | Analytics | Help if it reports raw views |
The job almost nothing does
Deciding what to make. Schedulers, editors and writers all assume that decision is already taken, and the category is enormous on production and thin on judgment.
That matters because production is rarely the binding constraint. In our sample 1,674 of 2,572 Reels, 65 percent, reached fewer people than the account already had followers. Those were not videos that failed to get made.
Two numbers to carry into any tool decision
Length: the 424 Reels under 15 seconds in our sample have a median of 48,548 views against 217,962 for 15 to 30 seconds. No tool fixes that; it is a decision you make before filming.
Format: 1,669 Reels carry a real spoken script and 903 do not, and they reach broadly similar numbers. So faceless tooling buys you production convenience rather than reach.
How to choose, in order
- Name the bottleneck in one sentence before looking at any tool.
- If the sentence is about volume or time, buy production. Those tools work and they are cheap.
- If the sentence is about results, no production tool will help, and buying one will feel like progress for about a month.
- Ask any tool claiming to know what works: on how many videos, from which platform, how recently.
- Pick one per job and stop comparing. The difference between the top three in any category will not show up in your numbers.
The test to run on any tool before buying
Point it at something you already understand. Run an account whose Reels you have watched, or a video you know did unusually well, and see whether the tool's read matches what you saw with your own eyes.
It is the cheapest diligence available and almost nobody does it, because demos are built on examples chosen to flatter. A tool that cannot explain something you already know will not explain something you do not.
Figures on this page come from 2,572 Instagram Reels across 539 accounts, analysed by Scrptly and deduplicated so no reel is counted twice. Read 2026-10-14.
