An analyzer that reports what a video got is a scoreboard, not an analysis

The difference between describing a video and explaining it, and the five outputs worth demanding. Built on 2,512 analysed Reels. 2026-10-11.

Two things sold under one name

Most tools called an analyzer report metrics: views, likes, comments, engagement rate, maybe a chart over time. That is a scoreboard. It tells you the result and nothing about the cause, which is the thing you came for.

An analysis has to answer a harder question: what did this video do that a similar video did not? That requires reading the video, not just its counters.

The five outputs worth demanding

What to expect from something calling itself an analyzer
OutputWhy it matters
Performance relative to the creator's audienceRaw views measure fame, not craft
Performance relative to that creator's own normSeparates a good video from a big account
What the first three seconds didThe largest controllable variable
The beat structure with timingsThe transferable part
An honest label on anything estimatedOtherwise you cannot tell data from a guess

Why the first two matter more than they sound

A reel with two million views on a three million follower account is below average. The same number on a fifty thousand follower account is extraordinary. In our sample 1,642 of 2,512 Reels reached fewer people than the account already had followers, and 490 beat three times follower count.

Without dividing by audience you cannot tell which of those any given video is, and every conclusion downstream is built on sand.

The honesty test

Ask what is measured and what is modelled. Instagram does not publish completion rate, shares or saves for accounts you do not own, so any analyzer showing you those is estimating.

We hold ourselves to this. Scrptly reports a retention score, and it is an AI estimate rather than platform data: across 2,512 Reels it takes only 26 distinct values, and the model is shown the view count before it estimates. We say so wherever it appears, and we would expect the same disclosure from anyone else.

What Scrptly outputs

  1. Views per follower, and the multiple of that creator's own median.
  2. The opening, quoted or described, and which mechanism it uses.
  3. A beat-by-beat timeline with timings.
  4. A repeatable template stripped of the specifics.
  5. A clear label on the estimated figures, because two of them are estimates.

It does not cover TikTok or YouTube, it does not publish or edit, and it will not tell you a competitor's retention, because nobody can.

Figures on this page come from 2,512 Instagram Reels across 530 accounts, analysed by Scrptly and deduplicated so no reel is counted twice. Read 2026-10-11.
