The best time to post on Instagram is the one your own account already knows

There is no universal best hour, and Instagram computes yours free inside the app. Plus our own measurement of when people actually search this question, which collapses after Wednesday.

The honest version first

Start with the part nobody selling you a tool will say. There is no universal best time to post on Instagram, which is why every article answering this question gives a different hour and none of them cite your account. Instagram already computes the real answer for you: open Insights, then Total followers, and it lists the times your followers are most active. It is free, it needs a public account, and it covers the past 90 days. That is the answer. What follows is the thing we can add, which is what the search data shows about the question itself.

Side by side

Search volumes are Google Ads monthly averages for the United States, priced against DataForSEO and held in our own keyword database. Every figure below is the sum of the terms naming that day.

DimensionSearches per monthWhat it tells us
Monday9,970The single biggest day. People plan the week before it starts
Tuesday8,140Still heavy. The planning window is open
Wednesday8,150Holds level with Tuesday, then the floor falls out
Thursday70A 116 times drop from Wednesday. Almost nobody asks
Friday110Flat. The week is already committed
Saturday130The weekend is not planned, it is posted or it is not

What the search data says

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday account for 26,260 of the 26,680 monthly searches that name a day. Thursday through Sunday carry 420 between them. The question is not asked evenly across the week, it is asked at the start of it and then abandoned, and the drop from Wednesday to Thursday is a factor of 116.

If you only plan content once a week, the search data says you are in the majority and you are doing it on a Monday. The practical read is that your posting schedule is decided days before the post exists, which makes the script the thing worth spending the time on, not the hour.

Which one to open first

  1. Open Instagram Insights, then Total followers. It lists the hours your own followers are most active, free, for the past 90 days. That is your answer and no article can give it to you.
  2. Post at one of those hours for two weeks and write the view counts down. Your own account is the only sample that matters.
  3. If the hour is right and the Reels still underperform, the timing was never the problem. Scrptly breaks down what the first four seconds of a working Reel in your niche actually say.
