Best day to post on Instagram, measured across 2,277 Reels, and why the gap is smaller than the advice suggests

Sunday and Saturday beat Tuesday in our own corpus of 2,277 Reels. The gap is real and smaller than you have been told. Measured 23 September 2026.

What the numbers say

Most posting-time advice points at the middle of the working week. Our own corpus points the other way, and not by much. Across 2,277 Reels with a recorded posting date, Sunday is the strongest day at a median of 0.64 views per follower, Saturday is next at 0.62 and Wednesday at 0.61. The weakest is Tuesday at 0.41. That is the whole range: best day to worst day is about 1.6 times. Worth having, and worth keeping in proportion. On the same corpus the measured quality of a Reel's hook separates 0.35 from 1.37, which is about 3.9 times. So the day you post is a real effect roughly a quarter the size of the effect of what you actually say.

Move your posting to the weekend if it costs you nothing. Do not expect it to fix a flat account, because the gap between your best day and your worst is smaller than the gap between a good opening line and a weak one.

Sample of 2,277, measured on 2026-09-23. Scrptly production database, queried 2026-09-23. 2,277 Reels deduplicated by shortcode, each with a posting timestamp, a view count and its account's follower count. Day is the ISO day of the week of the posting timestamp.

The measurement

Every Reel in the corpus that carries a posting timestamp, grouped by the day it went out. Views per follower is each Reel's view count divided by its own account's follower count. The seven rows below hold all 2,277 Reels: 342 plus 380 plus 351 plus 340 plus 325 plus 245 plus 294. Read the median column for a typical Reel and the top tenth column for what a good one reached on that day.

One Reel, beat by beat

Here is the size of the thing the day cannot do for you. One real Reel from the corpus, not a composite: 544,019 followers, seen 18,418,057 times, which is 33.86 times the following. It runs 45 seconds. Posting it on Sunday rather than Tuesday would have moved a typical Reel from 0.41 to 0.64. This one reached 33.86. The difference is not in the calendar.

What to do next

  1. If your posting day is genuinely free, favour Sunday, Saturday or Wednesday. Those are the three strongest medians in this corpus and the weekend also carries the two highest top tenths, at 12.42 on Saturday and 11.10 on Sunday.
  2. Tuesday is the weakest day here at 0.41, which is worth knowing mainly because a lot of advice recommends it. Do not read that as a reason to stop posting on Tuesdays, read it as a reason not to save your best Reel for one.
  3. Keep the size of this straight. Best day to worst day is about 1.6 times. A strong opening against a weak one is about 3.9 times on the same corpus. If you have one thing to work on this week it is not the calendar.
  4. One honest limit: these are Reels from accounts somebody chose to analyse, so they skew towards content that already worked, and the posting timestamp is the platform's rather than your audience's local time. Treat the ordering as sound and the exact decimals as approximate.
  5. For the general version of this question, including the account-level view, see our page on the best time to post on Instagram. This page is the by-day detail underneath it.
  6. Run your own handle through Scrptly if you want the other 3.9 times. It scores the hook on every Reel and returns the beat-by-beat structure of the ones that travelled. The first analysis does not need an account.
