Fifteen reel ideas that got more views than their creator had followers

Fifteen real Reels that got more views than their creator had followers, with the multiple each one hit. From Scrptly analyses, 16 September 2026.

What the numbers say

Across 2,086 reels with both a view count and a follower count, the pattern runs the opposite way to the one most creators assume. Reels from accounts under 10,000 followers have a median of 2.55 views per follower, and 29 percent of them got at least ten views per follower. Reels from accounts over 2 million have a median of 0.29, and 1 percent got ten times. Breaking out is not gated on the size of the audience you start with.

Read the caveat before you act on it. These are reels somebody chose to analyse, and a small account reel gets analysed precisely when it breaks out, so the small account row is the one most inflated by that. What survives the caveat is the weaker and more useful claim: the ideas that travel are not the ones with an audience behind them. Every one of the fifteen below came from an idea a reader could have had.

Sample of 2,086, measured on 2026-09-16. Scrptly production database, queried 2026-09-16. Deduplicated by Instagram shortcode, keeping the highest view count where a reel had been analysed more than once.

The measurement

Every reel in the corpus that has both a view count and a follower count, grouped by the size of the account that posted it. The ratio is views divided by followers on that reel, and the median is the median of those per reel ratios. Beat its audience means the reel got at least one view per follower. Ten times means at least ten.

What to do next

  1. Pick the three from the list that could be retold in your own subject, then write only the first line. If the first line does not survive being read aloud to somebody who does not follow you, the idea is not ready.
  2. Notice what the fifteen have in common. Ten of them open with a question, a contradiction or a number, and not one of them opens by introducing the creator. That is the pattern worth stealing, not the topic.
  3. Run a reel you liked through Scrptly before you copy it. Two analyses are free, and the breakdown tells you where the idea actually turned, which is usually four to six seconds in rather than at the hook.
