Most AI content idea tools will hand you a rule like keep captions short. Here is that exact rule tested
The honest version first
Predis.ai is a content generation and publishing tool. It writes posts, makes images and videos, schedules them and manages several brands at once, and if what you need is volume going out of the door it does far more than Scrptly does. Scrptly generates nothing and publishes nothing. It reads short form video that already performed and tells you why it held attention. These are different jobs, and a reader choosing between them on price alone is choosing between two things that are not alternatives.

What the search data says
Short captions look like a rule until you control for one thing. Across 3,283 Reels with a caption and more than 1,000 views, those with captions of 60 characters or fewer reached a median of 599,088 views, against 135,668 for 61 to 150 characters, 124,008 for 151 to 300 and 129,664 for captions over 300. That is a 4.4 times gap and it is the kind of number an AI tool turns into advice. Then we divided each Reel's views by its own account's follower count and ran the same bands again across the 3,220 Reels where we hold a follower count. The gap disappeared. Short captions came out at 0.51 views per follower, 61 to 150 at 0.38, 151 to 300 at 0.39 and over 300 at 0.48. The apparent rule was almost entirely account size: very large accounts write short captions, and very large accounts get a lot of views.
The test to apply to any AI content idea tool is whether its advice survives a control. Almost none of it is presented with one, because the uncontrolled version makes a better headline. Caption length is not the point here, it is the example. If a tool tells you a number moves reach, ask what else moves with it. In this case the answer was the size of the account, and once that was accounted for there was nothing left to act on.
Sample of 3,283 keywords, measured on 2026-09-27. Scrptly production database, queried 2026-09-27. 3,283 Reels with a non-empty caption and more than 1,000 views for the raw figures, and the 3,220 of those whose account has a recorded follower count above 1,000 for the normalised figures..
Which one to open first
- Ask any tool that gives you a content rule what it controlled for. The caption length example above went from a 4.4 times gap to nothing once account size was removed, and that is a common shape.
- Decide whether you need output or understanding. If you need finished posts going out on a schedule, a generator like Predis.ai does that and Scrptly does not.
- If you want to know why a specific Reel held attention before you write your own, paste it into Scrptly. The free tier covers two and takes no card.
- Be suspicious of any advice, ours included, that is quoted as a raw median without the sample size and the control beside it.
