If you want a Buffer alternative, read this before you switch to us
The honest version first
These two products do not compete. Buffer is a publishing tool: it holds your posts and sends them out on a schedule, across up to three channels for nothing. Scrptly never publishes anything. It analyses Reels that already worked and tells you what to say in the next one. If you arrived here looking to replace Buffer's scheduling, Scrptly is not a replacement and you should stay with Buffer. If you have the scheduling sorted and your Reels are still not travelling, that is the problem Scrptly is built for, and the rest of this page is the honest comparison.
Side by side
All prices in US dollars, read from each company's own live pricing page on 22 September 2026. Buffer prices are per channel per month on monthly billing. Scrptly prices are the monthly equivalent of annual billing, which is how Scrptly's page presents them.
| Buffer | Scrptly | |
|---|---|---|
| What it actually does | Queues and publishes posts to connected social channels on a schedule you set | Analyses Reels that already performed and returns the hook, the beat-by-beat structure and a repeatable template. Publishes nothing |
| Free tier | Free forever: 3 channels, 10 scheduled posts per channel, 1 user, 30 days of Insights history | Free trial: 2 analyses for the lifetime of the account, 2 script evaluations, full Reel breakdowns. No card required |
| Entry paid price | Essentials, $5 a month for one channel. A second channel is a second $5 | Starter, $15 a month billed annually at $180. There is also a $1 pass for 7 days that renews at $180 a year unless cancelled before day 7 |
| Scheduling and publishing | Yes, and it is the core of the product. Unlimited scheduled posts per channel on any paid plan | No. Not on any plan. Scrptly has no connection to your Instagram account and cannot post |
| Analytics | Your own account's numbers. 30 days of history on free, advanced analytics and branded reports on paid | Other accounts' numbers. Hook strength, retention score and views against follower count on Reels that already travelled |
| Team use | Team plan at $10 a month per channel adds unlimited members, approval workflows and custom access levels | No team features, no approval workflow, no shared seats. It is a single person's research tool |
| Who it is for | Anyone posting to several channels who wants it to happen without being at the keyboard | Someone whose posting is already consistent and whose Reels still sit at their follower count |

What the search data says
The reason these are different problems shows up in the data. Across 340 accounts holding 1,984 analysed Reels, the median account's best Reel was seen 4.2 times as often as that same account's median Reel, and for 89 of those accounts the best was at least 10 times the median. That spread is not a scheduling outcome. Posting the weak Reels at a better hour would not have closed it. Something about what those specific Reels said, in their first three seconds, made the difference, and that is the part a publishing tool cannot help with because it never sees the content as content.
If your Reels are all landing in the same narrow range, a scheduler will not move them. If they are wildly uneven, you already have an outlier worth taking apart, and that is a reading job rather than a posting job.

What an analysis actually returns
Eight opening lines taken from reels in our own analysis database on 16 September 2026, with the views each one earned. A clipping tool does not produce this, because it is pointed at your footage rather than at a reel that already worked.

Which one to open first
- Read the six openings above as outliers, because that is what they are. They were picked by sorting the corpus for the Reels that travelled furthest beyond their own account size, so they are the far tail and not a typical result. The useful part is not how far they went, it is that every one of them is a complete thought in under twelve words.
- If you do not have a scheduler and you post to more than one channel, start with Buffer's free tier. Three channels and ten scheduled posts per channel costs nothing and solves the problem you came here with.
- If you already schedule reliably and your Reels still sit near your follower count, that is a content problem, and no publishing tool addresses it.
- Run your own handle through Scrptly's free trial. Two analyses, no card, and it returns the hook score and beat-by-beat structure for the Reels that travelled.
- Compare your best Reel against your median one. If the gap is under 3 times, nothing has broken out yet. If it is over 10 times, you have an outlier and the job is working out whether it repeats.
